Year in Review ๐Ÿ˜Ž
S

I am an aspiring developer from Nigeria.

This year didn't start so well for me, had a lot of ups and downs, was so sick at some point but I am most grateful for how everything eventually turned out.

I started learning react.js early this year but before then I had already learned HTML, CSS, and basic javascript which I used in building my portfolio [ my portfolio ], during this period I was in school so I had to combine both school work and my learning, it wasn't easy but I didn't have a choice because I had already set a goal that I was going to get my first tech job that year.

Learning react.js was kind of a difficult and fun process, lol, I had to take a course to help me grasp the basic and important concepts better, did a lot of practicing and I also built some projects of which my favorite is the COVID-19 tracker web app [COVID-19 Tracker]. During the year, March to be precise I enrolled for the Zuri Team internship(frontend track) program. This program helped me improve in a lot of ways in both technical and soft skills because we were given group tasks in which we had to interact with one another.

After completing the Zuri internship, I later enrolled for the HNG internship. At this time I was already getting better as a developer. While was in the internship program(HNG) I started applying for junior front-end developer roles.

I applied to over a hundred jobs but got rejected in all, I only got one interview. To be honest, I was discouraged, I mean who wouldn't be but all thanks to tech twitter, my family, and friends for the continuous support and encouragement I got from them.

I continued to push out content and apply to jobs until I finally got my first ever gig in the month of October๐Ÿ˜‰ it was like a dream come true. I made my first tech money from that opportunity, getting this encouraged me to keep going, which I did and then the bigger blessing came in the month of December.

Prior to this, there is this company [The company I currently work for] I was interested in and I had messaged the CEO about my interest to work with them earlier but got a response from them that I needed more experience. The CEO was really nice to me and advised me to keep improving on self which I continued doing. And then in December, he reached out to me for a position at the company๐Ÿ˜ƒ, to be honest, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the message. I was really happy and I accepted the offer immediately.

I am currently working with the frontend team as an intern, and I am loving it, I have very nice teammates and I have been learning a lot of new things.

WRITING

I started writing in 2020, but I also wrote a few articles this year (2021) and I plan to write a lot of articles next year probably about 50 articles.

I believe writing helps one understand concepts better and I attest to that because most of the topics I wrote on, I understood better after writing. Below are links to some of my articles:

  1. Props and State in React

  2. 5 Reason Why You Should Learn to code

  3. Arrow Functions and Regular Functions in Javascript

More articles to come next year...๐Ÿ˜Ž

READING

I was able to finish reading just one book this year, I could have read more but I was really busy with school and all, but hopefully, next year would be better. Below contains the book I read and the one I am currently reading:

  1. Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

  2. Currently reading Atomic Habits by James Clear

PLANS

I have got lots of plans for next year. But generally, I plan to get better at what I do which is solving problems, achieving more than I did this year, and also helping others who are struggling in any way I can. I would also dive into various technologies especially the blockchain space. Not to forget I also want to make a lot of money next year, lol, ๐Ÿค‘.

APPRECIATION

I want to thank you(yes I mean you reading this article) for supporting me and taking out time to read this.

I also want to thank God almighty for being with me every step of the way. I did love to thank the tech twitter community you all are wonderful.

I also would love to thank Shedrach Akintayo for always taking out time out of his busy schedule to answer my stupid questions, would also love to thank @chevck on Twitter that's the name I know him with for now ๐Ÿ˜‚(no vex boss), would love to thank Micheal marra, Juan Carlos del Velle, Richard, atsu davoh, Antonio, Shashi Lo and to everyone that always replied my messages.

Bigs thanks go to my family for all the love and support they showed me throughout my journey. I promise to make y'all proud.

There is a lot I did love to share but these are top on the list, Really hope you enjoyed this article๐Ÿ˜‰.

Thank you for reading...
